About two-hundred thousand years (200,000) years ago the first human being set foot on the face of this beautiful planet Earth and since then his rivalry with mother nature has been going on.

Let’s take a tour from the very beginning to the present day and see how the human race has committed violent crimes and atrocities against mother nature.

In the beginning, man learnt to plough and grow crops and got benefit from Earth. But soon his violent nature took over, and he started to kill other animals and species for food. This was just the beginning. Going further ahead into time, we see that man started cutting trees and thereby finding a new way to hurt the environment. But all of this did not cause any permanent damage as the Earth was constantly replenishing all of the damage.

Now, moving through the pages of history and crossing the stone age, bronze age and the iron age we come to the dawn of the modern society. When the first chimney rose on the face of this Earth, when the first factory was set up, the very same day the death of the environment started, the exact same day nature started counting her last breaths.

Now if we look back and see that how much damage we have done in the past 3 or 4 hundred years. We are solely responsible for degrading the ecosystem, for destroying the ozone layer and causing global warming. We are not only destroying nature we are also threatening our own very existence.

Hundreds of species of animals and plants have gone extinct and some are at the verge of extinction but what do we care? The only thing we care about is having a comfortable life even if it means destroying the whole planet.

Nature is the best companion, and we are destroying our best companion for the material things. As someone said, “there is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is a society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not man the less, but nature more. Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished. Nature always wears the colours of the spirit.”

It is still not late and things are still not out of hand yet. We may not be able to return all we have taken from this planet, but we may be able to stop the damage that has been going on. We can probably never make it up to mother nature, but we can do something to cover our crimes.

About 7 billion people are living on this planet and if each person plants a tree this make 7 billion trees all over the world. This may be a small initiative and might be a drop in the ocean, but still, it would be something.

So let us make a vow that we will do whatever is in our power to stop the violence against nature and plant as many trees we can so our future generations can breathe in fresh and pure air. It’s time to give back what we have taken from the environment and do something good for this planet.
